There is a lot of limelight on Gordon Moore in the last 2 days, thanks to his live interview on the day 1 of Intel IDF. The interview was a instant hit with tonnes of publicity in the internet and press. Who is Gordon Moore? here is my list (Ref):

  • He is a self-made billionaire. Net worth of more than 3.6 billion in 2006.
  • He is one of the “traitorous eight” that left William Shockley and founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1965.
  • He published the famous “Moore Law” in 1965 which predicts chip density doubles every 18 months. The law is so far accurate until today.
  • He co-founded Intel Corporation with Robert Noyce in 1968.
  • He was the President, Chairman and CEO of Intel from 1975 to 1987.
  • He was the Chairman Emeritus of Intel Corporation since 1997.
  • He donated $600 million to Caltech in 2001.
  • One library at the University of Cambridge is named after him, so is the Moore Laboratories building at Caltech.

During the Intel IDF interview, Moore predicted that “Moore Law” will continue for another 10-15 years, after that he believed that the law will eventually come to an end due to fundamental physical limitation (Ref).

Impressive? He is definitely one of my idol, together with Steve Job. Catch the live interview of Gordon Moore below. You could also watch excellent series of videocasts and podcasts on Intel IDF on Podtech.net
